About the Job:

Join our diverse science and engineering team at Ciena, a leading supplier of optical line
and transmission equipment. As an Optical Measurements Engineer, you’ll contribute to
designing, modeling, and verifying Ciena’s next-generation coherent transceivers.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Research Scientist Engineering, you’ll utilize your skills
in communication theory, digital signal processing, optical physics, and performance
measurements.

Job Responsibilities:

→ Design and conduct experiments to evaluate DSP algorithms and hardware for
high-speed optical communication systems.
→ Analyze and present results from experiments and large datasets.
→ Support other Ciena teams through automation and analysis of optical
experiments.

Good to Have:

→ Innovate solutions for experimental issues.
→ Automate, analyze, and visualize experimental data using MATLAB.
→ Perform simulations of experiments and validate predictions via measurement.
→ Test DSP algorithms and electro-optic components at speeds beyond 800 Gb/s.
→ Analyze problems in optical physics, communications theory, statistics, and highspeed RF electronics.

Experience:

→ Post-graduate degree in Math, Physics, or Engineering with a focus on optical
physics, DSP, or communication systems.
→ Experience working in a lab environment with optical and/or RF technologies.
→ Proficiency in MATLAB; Python experience is an asset.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

→ Interface and collaborate on technical designs with DSP, hardware, firmware,
electro-optic, and systems teams.
→ Share expertise and best practices with lab teams

Areas of Impact:

→ Key DSP technology for state-of-the-art coherent optical modem and DWDM
systems.
