About the Role:
As a Lead EV Powertrain & Drive Systems professional at Hero MotoCorp Ltd., you will
report to the Section Head – EV Supplier Evaluation and be an integral part of the EV
Quality team within the Quality Function.
In this purpose-driven role, you will manage both existing and new supplier development
for key components of the EV powertrain & drive system, including HV Battery child parts,
Motor/MCU & Transmission drive system, and HV charging system, as well as NVH, HV
Safety, HV Interlock & Isolations.
Your mission is to drive continuous quality improvement with both Mechanical and
Electrical component suppliers and across manufacturing locations. Regular liaison with
equipment suppliers and toolmakers will keep you abreast of new developments,
enabling you to identify innovative ways to enhance technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Improve the Quality of Supplier Parts:
o Ensure the quality of manufacturing processes at suppliers through regular
audits and Quality Assurance Visits (QAVs).
o Review supplier design engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and
quality documentation (including 8D’s) to ensure compliance with
Continental and customer requirements. - Develop EV Powertrain & Drive System at Supplier End:
o Ensure quality of new parts developed at suppliers via audits and QAVs.
o Improve new product performance through effective testing and validation
(COP).
o Ensure production conformity through robust testing mechanisms. - Supplier Evaluations / QAV L1:
o Confirm supplier process and quality systems such as PPAP, APQP & QC
Tools.
o Act on all current issues with tracking and follow-up. - Study of New Designs and CTQ Identification:
o Identify Critical to Quality (CTQ) parameters and ensure they are cascaded
effectively at the supplier level.
o Ensure that Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA),
and Design for Safety (DFS) aspects are addressed. - Drive DFMEA Practices:
o Ensure effective participation of the Cross Functional Team (CFT) in
DFMEA sessions.
o Identify CTQ and cascade findings to suppliers. - Base Model / After Market Issues Resolution:
o Track gate processes, coordinate event trials, and review drawings.
o Align with senior management during reviews (e.g., MQ/GB/GPP/PL).
A Day in the Life:
→ Stakeholder Coordination:
o Align with multiple internal stakeholders across functions, including CIT,
Manufacturing, Quality, and overall CFT.
→ Quality & Cost Management:
o Choose suppliers based on quality and cost, ensuring first-time-right
delivery with established processes.
→ DFMEA Discussions:
o Participate in DFMEA discussions on new technological parts, including
those with no past failure data or proprietary components.
→ Travel:
o Frequently travel both locally and internationally, sometimes on short
notice.
→ Regulatory Compliance:
o Ensure adherence to country-specific statutory, regulatory, and customer
quality requirements.
→ Technical Skills / Knowledge:
o Expertise in product & process aspects for Electrical & Electronic (E&E)
Powertrain & eDrive systems.
o In-depth knowledge of 2-wheeler electrical sub-systems (LV & HV
systems).
o Understanding of Li-ion cell chemistry and the manufacturing processes
for lithium-ion battery packs.
o Experience in New Product Development, problem-solving, and defect
analysis.
o Proficiency in project planning/management with skills in GD&T, PPAP,
APQP, DFMEA, QC tools, drawing study, auditing, and quality planning.
