💡 About the Role:
Canva is hiring a Staff Software Engineer – Mobile Platform (Rust) to join its Mobile Platform Engineering team in Sydney.This is a highly technical leadership role where you’ll build the foundational Rust-powered libraries that power Canva across iOS, Android, and Web.You’ll design high-performance cross-platform systems, influence mobile architecture, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with product, platform, and infrastructure engineers to shape the future of Canva’s mobile ecosystem.If you enjoy systems programming, Rust, mobile platforms, and large-scale engineering challenges, this is one of the most exciting mobile engineering roles available globally.

📌 Key Responsibilities:
📌 Design and build portable Rust libraries for iOS, Android, and Web ⚙️
📌 Develop scalable cross-platform mobile architecture 📱
📌 Build high-performance native libraries using Rust and C++ 🦀
📌 Design safe APIs and foreign function interfaces (FFI) 🔗
📌 Collaborate with React Native, iOS, Android, and Platform teams 🤝
📌 Improve application performance, scalability, and reliability 🚀
📌 Write architecture documents and establish engineering standards 📝
📌 Mentor engineers and conduct technical design reviews 👨‍🏫
📌 Lead modernization of Canva’s mobile platform architecture 🌍
📌 Support AI-enabled engineering workflows and intelligent development practices 🤖

🎯 Requirements:
🎯 Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline 🎓
🎯 8–12+ years of professional software engineering experience 💻
🎯 Strong production experience with Rust programming 🦀
🎯 Deep expertise in native iOS and Android development 📱
🎯 Experience building cross-platform mobile libraries ⚙️
🎯 Strong understanding of C++, memory management, and FFI 🔗
🎯 Knowledge of React Native architecture ⚛️
