About the Role:

The British Council has been a key player in India since 1948, aiming to strengthen bilateral
relationships through education, arts, and cultural exchange. As the Academic Coordinator
(Young Learner), you will help maintain and enhance the professional development and
academic quality within our teaching centre. Your role is to support in-house teacher
development programmes, ensure the delivery of high-quality English language
instruction, and provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating experience. You will
also contribute to course and programme development and uphold the British Council’s
commitment to fostering global connections and transforming lives through education.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Quality: – Deliver core teaching duties across various course types as per global ELT standards.

– Ensure teaching is delivered to a high standard, achieving effective pacing and engaging learners.

  • Programme Management:
  • Contribute to the development of teaching and assessment materials and serve as a duty
    officer or deputise for Senior Teachers when required.
  • Support teacher development and performance in line with the Teaching Excellence
    Action Plan (TEAP).
  • Manage classroom operations and maintain a seamless interface between teaching and
    customer service functions.

Teacher Training & Development:

– Identify training needs and plan internal training sessions to enhance teaching skills.

– Facilitate external training programmes like TYLEC and DELTA.

– Conduct formal lesson observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.

  • Operational & Administrative Duties:
  • Carry out necessary administrative tasks related to teaching centre operations.
  • Ensure all documentation, records, and processes comply with the British Council’s
    standards and policies.
  • Safeguarding & Compliance:
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety guidelines
    within the teaching centre.
  • Act as a point of contact for any concerns related to these areas.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements: – A University degree in any discipline.
  • TEFL-I qualification (CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL) is required.
  • A recognised diploma in EFL (such as DELTA or Trinity Diploma TESOL) is essential.
  • Work Experience: – A minimum of 4 years of post-diploma teaching experience.
  • Experience in line managing or coordinating teaching teams is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in teacher training and mentoring is essential.
  • Must have a proven track record in delivering high-quality English language teaching to
    young learners (800+ hours) and adults (1500+ hours, including IELTS preparation).

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: Monthly pay scale ranges from ₹74,167 to ₹1,38,167, which translates to
    approximately ₹8.9 – ₹16.6 Lakhs per year.
  • Annual Leave: 21 working days per calendar year plus 14 public holidays.
