🎯 About the Role:
As a Contractual Copyeditor – Medicine & Life Sciences at CACTUS, you’ll work entirely from home
— editing academic and scientific manuscripts to ensure they meet the highest standards of scientific English, journal style, and global readability.

🗂️ Key Responsibilities:

• ✏️ Copy-edit academic and scientific manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, conciseness, logical flow, and overall readability — preserving the author’s intended meaning throughout
• 📋 Apply specific journal guidelines related to structure, formatting, referencing style (AMA preferred), abbreviations, units of measure, and other stylistic conventions — ensuring consistency across text, tables, figures, and supplementary materials
• 🔍 Crosscheck and verify document metadata — including in-text citations, reference lists, author affiliations, figure/table callouts, and bibliographic details using software tools
• 🌐 Ensure all manuscripts meet the conventions of formal scientific writing appropriate for a global academic audience and client-specific house style guides

✅ Requirements:

🔑 Must-Haves:

• 🎓 Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medicine, Life Sciences, or a closely related scientific field
• ✍️ Proven experience in academic editing or copyediting (mandatory — no exceptions)
• 💻 Proficiency in MS Word — specifically Track Changes and styling options
• 🏠 Self-motivated and comfortable working independently from home with minimal supervision

🛠️ Technical Skills:

• 📖 Familiarity with the AMA (American Medical Association) style guide is strongly preferred
• 🔧 Ability to use software tools for cross checking citations, references, and document metadata
• 🔬 Strong subject-matter knowledge in Medicine and/or Life Sciences for accurate scientific editing
• ⏰ Good time management skills to meet manuscript deadlines on a regular, predictable schedule
