About the Role:
🛡 As a Staff Data Scientist in Trust & Safety, you will help scale Character.AI safely by building and leading data efforts focused on online harms, safety metrics, and ecosystem health for both Creators and Users.You will partner closely with Safety, Product, and Engineering teams to define the right questions, run high-velocity experiments, and ship data-informed interventions that protect users while preserving engaging experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 📊 Lead data science support for Trust & Safety across multiple product areas, focusing on the two-sided ecosystem of creators and users who build and use characters.
  • 🧠 Define and prioritize the right questions to ask, derive key insights from user-centric data, and translate findings into clear, actionable next steps.
  • 🤝 Collaborate with engineering and product to execute on safety improvements, design experiments, and iterate quickly on mitigations and classifiers.
  • 🛠 Stand up and scale Character.AI’s Trust & Safety data science stack, including tools and systems required for effective analysis and monitoring as the product grows.

Requirements:

  • 📈 7+ years of data science leadership experience in chat, social media, or UGC products.
  • 🔐 At least 2+ years specifically supporting Trust & Safety functions (e.g., abuse, integrity, content safety, online harms).
  • 🧭 Strong intuition for impactful questions, ability to drive quickly to insights, and a track record of turning analysis into shipped product changes.
  • ⚡ Comfort with high-velocity experimentation and working in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments.

You’ll be a good fit if you have:

  • 🧬 Ecosystem or marketplace data science experience in B2C/C2C environments.
